Background of the Study
Childhood immunization is one of the most effective public health interventions for preventing infectious diseases. However, maternal awareness of immunization schedules is crucial in ensuring timely vaccine administration. In Niger State, factors such as low literacy levels, cultural beliefs, and misinformation have affected mothers’ adherence to immunization schedules (Gavi, 2024). While efforts have been made to educate mothers on vaccination timelines, gaps in knowledge and adherence still persist, warranting further investigation.
Statement of the Problem
Despite ongoing immunization campaigns, delays and missed vaccinations remain common in Niger State. A lack of awareness about immunization schedules among mothers contributes to incomplete vaccine uptake, increasing the risk of preventable diseases. This study seeks to examine the level of maternal awareness and its impact on immunization adherence.
Objectives of the Study
1. To assess maternal awareness of childhood immunization schedules.
2. To examine the relationship between maternal awareness and vaccine adherence.
3. To identify factors influencing maternal knowledge of immunization schedules.
Research Questions
1. What is the level of maternal awareness regarding childhood immunization schedules in Niger State?
2. How does maternal awareness influence adherence to immunization schedules?
3. What factors affect maternal knowledge of childhood vaccinations?
Research Hypotheses
1. High maternal awareness is associated with better adherence to immunization schedules.
2. Socioeconomic factors influence maternal knowledge of childhood vaccinations.
3. Community-based education programs improve maternal awareness of immunization schedules.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on mothers with children under five years old in Niger State. Limitations may include recall bias and difficulties in reaching rural populations.
